Officer Injured in Houston Suicide Incident

HOUSTON (AP) _ A man who allegedly threatened to kill himself then tried to enter a middle school to say goodbye to his daughter has been arrested after authorities said he injured a deputy constable at the Harris County campus.

The unidentified man is expected to be charged with assaulting a police officer. The constable suffered head injuries Monday and will need surgery after he and another officer confronted the man as he tried to enter the school.

The man’s wife called authorities to say he planned to say goodbye to his children then commit suicide, said Assistant Chief Mark Hermann of the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

The call triggered a brief lockdown of the middle school as well as a nearby high school and elementary school.
