Note Could Lead to Hit-and-Run Driver

LEAGUE CITY, Texas (AP) _ League City police say a note expressing remorse was left near a hit and run victim whose body was found in a ditch.

Police say the author of the note apparently was the driver who fled the scene.

An investigator, who asked to be identified only as Detective Aldridge, told The Associated Press that no arrests have been made in the death of Maurice Jones.

His body was discovered Sunday morning, hours after Jones, 34, got off work at a fast-food restaurant and was walking home.

His mother, Roberta Jones, said in the Houston Chronicle that the note made the loss even worse.

The Galveston County Daily News reports a medical examiner ruled Jones died from blunt force trauma.

Aldridge declined to reveal more details of the message, scribbled on paper from a spiral notebook. He said the handwritten note possibly was done by a female.
