More Northgate Street Work Is Underway & Police Deal With A Fight In An Overcrowded Northgate Bar

Driving through Northgate has become a little more difficult. The city of College Station reports the next step in a pedestrian safety project began Wednesday. This phase includes replacing a signal and a crosswalk at University and Spence with a median. No left turns will be allowed to or from Spence. Temporary signals are also being installed at University and Church and University and South College. The project is expected to be completed at the end of the year, weather permitting.

It’s been a month since the College Station city council have the police and fire departments the authority to temporarily shut down overcrowded businesses. Last weekend, College Station police discovered 190 people in the downstairs area of the Hookah Station in Northgate, which has a maximum occupancy of 125. As officers were in the process of removing customers and issuing a ticket, the crowd became hostile after the music stopped and lights were turned on. One officer witnessed a customer striking another in the head with a closed right fist. According to the arrest report, the man who threw the punch then tried to pull away from two officers. That led to the arrest of 24 year old Marco Heras from Arkansas on a charge of resisting arrest.
