The No. 8 Texas A&M softball team run-ruled James Madison, 11-0, in five innings Sunday at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational.
Texas A&M (6-3) scored multiple runs in three of its four offensive innings, including five in the second and four in the fourth. Kelsey Mathis led the Aggies with a career-best performance, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one home run. Ariel Kowalewski and Mya Perez each added multiple hits, while KK Dement was the lone Aggie to score multiple runs.
Sydney Lessentine (3-0) earned the win after striking out four batters in 2.2 innings of relief. Aggie starter Taylor Pannell tossed 2.1 innings without yielding a walk. James Madison (2-4) mustered just one base runner to reach third base.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Aggies plated five runs on five hits while batting around the lineup to take a 5-0 lead after the second inning. The momentum carried into the third after Micaela Wark reached on a fielding error, followed by Mathis blasting a two-run shot to left-center to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Maroon & White entered run-rule territory after Kowalewski hit a solo homer to right-center. Texas A&M continued to pour it on with three more runs after Dement hit an RBI double to left field and Mathis singled to left field to score two more Aggies.
