No. 6 Texas A&M Softball Claims Series Against No. 24 Alabama

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 6 Texas A&M team claimed the series over No. 24 Alabama in a comeback win, 9-7, in Sunday’s rubber match at Davis Diamond.

Trailing by a run in the bottom of the sixth, Texas A&M (26-5, 6-3 SEC) strung together consecutive singles from Amari Harper and Mya Perez, while Mac Barbara followed with an RBI-single to score Harper and even the game 7-7 with one out. The 12th Man came in full effect as Koko Wooley walked to load the bases, followed by consecutive RBI-walks from Allie Enright and Olivia Johnson to give the Aggies a 9-7 lead.

Sydney Lessentine entered the circle in the seventh and forced the leadoff batter to pop up, followed by a fly out and strikeout to close the door on Alabama (22-12, 2-4 SEC).

After leading Alabama 6-1 through five innings, the Crimson Tide blasted a grand slam to come within one before a 2-RBI single through the right side gave Alabama its first lead, 7-6, after the top of the sixth.

Texas A&M drew first blood in the opening frame when Harper and Perez were each hit-by-pitch before Wooley drove in Harper with an infield two-out single. After a scoreless second inning, Alabama evened the score, 1-1, in the top of the third with a solo home run.

The Aggies answered back in the bottom half as Powell led off with her team-leading eighth double of the season before consecutive fielder’s choices scored Powell to make it a 2-1 game after three.

The Maroon & White extended their lead plating two runs in the fourth as Harper hit a 2-RBI two-out double, before adding a pair of runs in the fifth on a wild pitch and sac fly to lead 6-1.

The homestand continues as Texas A&M hosts a pair of midweeks against Sam Houston on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and North Texas on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Davis Diamond.

  • Amari Harper reached base in each plate appearance going 2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP. The junior registered her 100th career hit and 51st career RBI. Harper completed the series reaching base in 7-of-10 plate appearances going 4-for-7, including two hit-by-pitches and one walk.
  • Sydney Lessentine recorded her first career save, while her game-ending strikeout marked the 50th punch out of the season for the freshman.
  • Mac Barbara went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, it marked her ninth multi-RBI game and eighth multi-hit game of the season. The graduate led the Aggies in the series totaling five RBI going 5-for-10 with a home run and two runs.
  • Senior Koko Wooley went 3-for-3, marking her third three-hit game this season. The shortstop finished the weekend 6-for-10, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R.
  • Pitcher Emiley Kennedy registered her 60th strikeout of the season bringing her career total to 480 punchouts. The senior moved to 9-3 on the season after going 6.0 innings, 2 K, 4 BB, 6 H, 7 R.
  • The victory marked the 11th comeback win for the Aggies, the sixth most in the nation this season.
  • Texas A&M claimed its third consecutive series win over Alabama after taking the three-game sets in 2024 and 2022.
  • Today’s 9-7 win marked a scorigami, which refers to a unique final score that is a first in program history.
