No. 25 Texas A&M concluded Opening Weekend Sunday with a sweep of Tennessee Tech, 7-1, from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The win marks the fifth consecutive Opening Weekend sweep for the Aggies (3-0) and their 16th in the last 18 seasons.
Aiden Sims earned the win in the first weekend start of his career. The Forney, Texas, native worked a career high 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on one hit and registered a career-best seven strikeouts. Clayton Freshcorn locked down the last three frames to earn his first save of the season, punching out four batters and allowing just two hits and no runs.
Caden Sorrell and Wesley Jordan continued their respective Opening Weekend offensive tears. Sorrell logged four hits, matching a career high. The junior added one RBI and scored one run himself. Jordan’s monster week continued as the Aggies’ designated hitter posted three hits to go along with two RBI and one run. After three games, Jordan is 7-for-9
(.778) at the plate with seven runs, four RBI and five walks.
Zane Becker, Jake Duer and Boston Kellner each recorded a hit and an RBI to add to the Maroon & White advantage.
GAME NOTES
With the sweep, the Aggies are 3-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
The win marks the fifth consecutive Opening Weekend sweep and the 16th in the last 18 seasons for the Maroon & White. Texas A&M has outscored its opponents 528-141 in that stretch.
5,561 fans were in attendance at Blue Bell Park on Sunday. The total attendance for the three-game Opening Weekend series was 18,236.
The 45 runs scored by the Maroon & White on Opening Weekend is the most since 2017.
Sims set career highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (7).
Sorrell matched his career high with four hits.
The junior’s 10 RBI in the series is the most in a three-game set of his career.
Chestnut’s stolen base marked the 20th of his career as an Aggie.
