COLLEGE STATION – No. 18 Texas A&M was defeated by No. 1 Florida, 14-3, in six innings on Friday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Gators (46-3, 16-3 SEC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, scoring on a throwing error in the second, before plating three in the third on a two-RBI double by Janell Wheaton and an RBI single by Taylore Fuller.
A&M (34-15, 6-13 SEC) cut the lead in half in the fourth on RBI singles from sophomores Tori Vidales and Kristen Cuyos. FreshmanKeeli Milligan led off the inning with an infield single and reached third on a throwing error, which allowed freshman Kaitlyn Alderinkto reach safely. Vidales singled to center field, scoring Milligan and moving Alderink to third. Cuyos smacked a 1-2 pitch to left to drive in Alderink, her team-leading 51st RBI of the season.
Freshman Samantha Show trimmed the lead to one in the fifth, blasting a leadoff home run to right field. The East Bernard, Texas native now has nine dingers on the campaign.
Florida countered with 10 runs on five hits in the sixth, capped off by an Amanda Lorenz one-out grand slam.
Show was saddled with the loss to move to 21-9 on the season, throwing 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits, eight runs, seven earned, five walks while striking out two.
