SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 18 Texas A&M softball team and freshman Keeli Milligan broke school records Wednesday as the Aggies defeated Texas State, 6-3, at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The six runs by the Aggies (34-14) give the team 367 on the season, surpassing the record of 366 set in 2013.

Freshman Keeli Milligan led off the game with a single through the left side, before stealing her 49th base of the season, eclipsing Sharonda McDonald’s school record of 48 set in 2005.

“It is something that has been wearing on me for a long time,” Milligan said. “It is a weight off my shoulders. It means a lot to me in the aspect that Sharonda was a great player here. It is a confidence boost to me to be able to categorize myself with her in stolen bases.”

Sophomore Ashley Walters knocked in Milligan with a single to center to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage.

Texas State (30-18) gained the lead in the second, scoring three two-out runs. Bianca Prado sent a 1-1 pitch up the middle to score Taylor Webb, before Kimberlin Naviar recorded a two-RBI single.

A&M responded with five runs in the third, highlighted by freshman Riley Sartain‘s second grand slam of the season. Freshman Kaitlyn Alderink led off the frame with a single to right and was driven in by a sophomore Tori Vidales single to center. After Walters singled and sophomore Kristen Cuyos drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases, Sartain belted her sixth home run of the season to center.

Freshman Samantha Show earned her 21st victory of the season, tossing five innings of relief and striking out 10. Sophomore Trinity Harrington got the start, throwing two innings giving up three runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

“Texas State is a very good ball club, and we have a lot of respect for them,” head coach Jo Evans said. “Every time we play them I hold my breath. They always compete. I really am pleased with some of the performances we had and how we took care of ourselves.”

The Aggies return to action Friday as they begin a three-game series against No. 1 Florida at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network +. Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at noon on the SEC Network, and Sunday’s game is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start on SEC Network+.
