BELLEAIR, Fla. – The No. 16 Texas A&M women’s golf team was in ninth with a 4-over 284 after the first round of the 2025 SEC Championship at the par-70 Pelican Golf Course Monday.
“We are right in the mix and really didn’t play our best golf,” Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “All of our girls have given us great golf all year, so there is no need to panic. We just need to clean a few things up and trust our abilities. We were in control of the golf ball but were just sloppy around the greens. Each day will get better as we continue to learn the course.”
The Aggies were one shot back of Tennessee (+3) and Mississippi State (+3) for eighth place, which is where the Maroon & White needs to be by the end of the third round of stroke play Wednesday to advance to the match play portion of the tournament.
Leading the tournament was No. 4 South Carolina (-14) on the team leaderboard and Anna Davis of Auburn was at the top of the individuals with a 5-under 65.
Freshman Vanessa Borovilos led the charge for the Aggies at 2-under 68 and held onto a share of ninth. Borovilos had one bogey on No. 16, but holed birdies on Nos. 1, 7 and 17 to get under par.
Sky Sudberry recorded a huge under-par round for Texas A&M at 1-under 69 and was tied for 16th. The sophomore’s round was highlighted by a chip in from off the green on the par-3 No. 15 for birdie.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio was 1-over 71 and in a dead heat for 30th. The Spaniard executed a crucial up and down from a fairway bunker 50 yards out on the par-5 No. 7 that gave her a birdie and another stroke for the Aggies towards the top eight.
Mia Nixon and Kynadie Adams rounded out the lineup tied for 70th and in 73rd, respectively.
