No. 10 Aggies Sweep Oklahoma for Sixth Conference Win

The No. 10 Texas A&M volleyball team swept Oklahoma Friday evening at Reed Arena, 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-20).

The Aggies (14-3, 6-1 SEC) secured their second-straight sweep, as they downed the Sooners (12-5, 4-3 SEC) behind a night defined by efficiency. The Maroon & White hit .271 as a unit and held Oklahoma to .103, backing up their No. 1 ranking in opponent hitting percentage in the league.

Texas A&M came out of the gate on the front foot, striking the first three points of the match behind Maddie Waak at the service line. The teams began to settle into the contest, trading points as the Aggies were up one at the media timeout (15-14). The chess match continued, as the teams found level late at 23-23. The visitors had their opportunity to take the frame (24-23), but three-straight points capped off by a block from Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Taryn Morris sealed the opener, 26-24.

Texas A&M carried its momentum into the second frame, ripping off a 10-7 run to start the set. The Aggies continued to push, as the lead expanded to six at the midway point of the frame (15-9). The Sooners battled back within three late (20-17), but the Maroon & White responded and closed out the frame with a 5-4 streak capped off by a kill from Morgan Perkins (25-21) to double their lead in the match, 2-0.

Both programs battled back-and-forth in the third, finding level at 6-6. Breaking the deadlock was Texas A&M, as Cos-Okpalla capped off a 9-3 run to lead by six in the middle of the set (15-9). The visitors couldn’t get close, as the Aggies put their foot on the gas and closed the set (25-20) and match, 3-0.
