News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M baseball dropped its midweek contest against Texas State, 7-3, Tuesday night at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Following a leadoff home run from the Bobcats (6-2) in the opening frame, Kaeden Kent responded with one of his own to left center in the bottom half. The junior’s second homer of the season traveled 401 feet and left the bat at 102 mph. Two batters later, Wyatt Henseler gave the Aggies (5-2) the lead, 2-1, with a 409-foot solo blast to center that exited the bat at 107 mph.
The junior’s homer marked his first in the Maroon & White and 55th of his career, which ranks second among active players.
Texas State broke the game open in the third with five runs that featured a three-run homer and two-run double.
After the Bobcats extended their advantage to 7-2 in the fifth, the Aggies threatened to respond in the bottom half as Henseler and Blake Binderup reached on back-to-back singles with one out. The two were ultimately stranded as a groundout and strikeout ended the frame.
Despite pushing across a run in the ninth, Texas A&M fell to the Bobcats 7-3.
Starter Aiden Sims made his collegiate debut for the Maroon & White and allowed one run over two strong innings of work. The freshman also struck out a team-high three batters.
At the plate, Henseler recorded the lone multi-hit performance of the night as the senior finished 3-for-5. Over his last four games, the Penn transfer has tallied eight hits.
