Brazos County Commissioners have taken the next step towards building a new tax office building.
County Judge Duane Peters says there was unanimous approval at Tuesday’s meeting awarding a contract to do the site preparation. That includes streets and utilities.
The new location is in Bryan’s Park Hudson development on Pendleton Drive, off Boonville Road.
The land was acquired in a trade with the Bryan school district. Peters says the main tax office has to be in the county seat and the decision was made not to have a second office.
The projected construction cost is $2.8 million dollars.
Peters says they are hopeful that construction might start before the end of 2013.
Peters says no decision has been made what to do with the current tax office building, a former auto parts store, in downtown Bryan.
