New Manager Hired at Larry J. Ringer Library

For the first time in five months, there’s a fulltime manager of the Larry Ringer library in College Station.

The City of Bryan, which is in charge of staffing libraries in the twin cities, announced the selection of Kathy Nixie. She had spent the last four years as director of the LaMarque library in Galveston County. Bryan Deputy City Manager Joey Dunn noted her strengths included working with young people.

Dunn says he and others in the hiring process knew that Nixie was terminated in LaMarque in January and that the action was politically motivated.

According to Larry Koenninger, Director of the Bryan/College Station Library System, Nixie was among approximately 20 applicants.  She was one of three finalists interviewed by a committee consisting of Koenninger, David Gerling of the College Station Parks and Recreation Department, Library Advisory Board members, Friends of the Library board members, and staff from the Ringer Library.

Dr. Koenninger says following the initial interviews the selection committee met to discuss and evaluate the candidates. The committee and Koenninger recommended Nixie to city officials.

Koenninger says Nixie was offered and accepted the branch manager’s job after meeting with Bryan’s Human Resources Director and both Deputy City Managers.

Nixie replaces Kathleen Dill, who was fired in April after she was arrested for stealing $64 dollars in library funds. Dill’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 19th.
