New Information in Coppell Mayor Murder-Suicide

DALLAS (AP) _ Police are now confirming that the mayor of the affluent Dallas suburb of Coppell shot her 19-year-old daughter in the back of the head, then waited about a day before killing herself.

The bodies of Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters and her daughter were found by police after she failed to show up for a July 13 city council meeting.

Police say that the day before, Corrinne Peters, was seen for the last time loading personal items into her vehicle about 6 a.m. About 30 minutes later, the mayor was seen unloading the items.

Police said Thursday that Peters shot her daughter in the laundry room of their home sometime between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on July 12.

Police released the documents Thursday of their completed investigation in response to an open records request from The Associated Press.
