In April 2025, Bryan ISD school board members awarded a nearly $700,000 dollar contract to replace the artificial turf at Merrill Green Stadium.

The installation was celebrated at Monday night’s school board meeting (July 21) by superintendent Ginger Carrabine.

She said “the kids who play football at both schools (Bryan High and Rudder High) have told me they’ve seen it, they’re sneaking out there to take a look and they’re taking pictures of it. So there’s a lot really good energy right now happening because we’re ready for football season and this year it will be a new day on our brand new turf.”

Carrabine thanked board member Joel Bryan for his contribution to the design of the new turf, saying “he had a lot of the inspiration behind some of the changes, bringing us into a more progressive time” with alternating shades of green every ten yards and the end zone logos of both high schools.

Money to pay for the stadium’s third artificial surface since converting from grass in 2012 came from leftover money from bond issues that were passed in 2014 and 2019.
