Neal Boortz To Retire Inauguration Day

Neal Boortz greets WTAW listeners in 2011.

If you were listening to WTAW Monday morning shortly after 9, you heard the announcement that Neal Boortz is retiring from his talk show.

Boortz, whose last show will be on Inauguration Day 2013, made his announcement in his typical style.

Neal Boortz announces his retirement.

In Boortz’s place, former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain will take over. Cain is a long-time substitute host for Boortz, who says he’s retiring now to travel with his wife Donna.

Boortz has had his current talk show for more than 20 years, but began in radio here at WTAW in 1967 while attending Texas A&M.

He has maintained a long, positive relationship with the station, hosting numerous events to interact with local listeners, including a book signing and live broadcasts of his show.
