Napolitano to Visit Laredo

LAREDO, Texas (AP) _ Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is expected to announce millions of dollars in grant funding for security along the Texas border.

Napolitano was expected to spend Thursday in Laredo, where she’s scheduled to tour operations at the port of entry and announce Operation Stonegarden grants for 2010.

The grants are given annually to law enforcement along the border. Last year, the federal government awarded about $60 million in funding under the program.

Napolitano’s visit comes two weeks after Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he had a “testy” exchange with the secretary during Hurricane Alex. The two were discussing readiness for the storm when Perry said he tried steering the conversation toward border security.
