This Saturday (February 7) marks one year since a Bryan woman was shot to death by her common law husband.

Tuesday (February 3) in Brazos County district court, 26 year old Brandon Dickerson was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to murdering Alexis Walls in the bedroom of their now two and a half year old son.

According to the Bryan police arrest report, Dickerson called 9-1-1 and confessed to firing 15 shots.

A news release from the district attorney’s office says the son is being raised by his mother’s parents.

And Dickerson’s lawyer issued a statement saying his client accepts the punishment and takes full responsibility for his action.

News release and photos from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:

Alexis Walls was born on October 9, 2001. From the moment she was born, she brought light to those who were lucky enough to know her. She was friendly, kind, and thoughtful. She was the youngest of three children. Her family affectionately referred to her as a “hurricane”. Alexis never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone she met with open arms. She was bubbly and talkative. For her family, she was a ball of joy. For her friends, she was a listening ear. For her young son Zaylen, she was everything.

Alexis’ life was taken far too soon. On February 7, 2025, she was murdered by Brandon Dickerson. The defendant called 911 to report that killed Alexis by shooting her multiple times.

On February 3, 2026, the defendant pled guilty and was sentenced by Judge Kyle Hawthorne to 50 years in prison.

Alexis’ life is not defined by how it ended or by this defendant. Instead, with the consent of Alexis’ family, we will focus on the light she gave to everyone around her. That light continues to glow in those who loved her. It is Alexis’ family who will raise her son Zayen and tell him stories of his mother. Zaylen is a young boy living with autism, but he is doing well and thriving while being raised by Alexis’ parents. It is Alexis’ friends who will welcome others with the open arms she did. Those who loved Alexis will carry on her legacy.

In the United States, domestic violence is a deadly and pervasive issue. Nearly one in every two women report abuse from their intimate partner. Every month in the U.S. on average, more than 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner. From 2014 to 2023, there was a 22% increase in intimate partner homicides of women.

If you, or someone you know, is a victim of domestic violence, please know you are not alone. You deserve love that is kind and understanding, not cruel and unusual. Help is available. You can contact our local domestic violence shelter Phoebe’s Home at 979-775-5355.

Statement from Brazos County district attorney Jarvis Parsons and assistant district attorneys Abigail Goodman and Tiffany Larsen: “Alexis was a light to everyone she met. She was a loving mother, a beautiful daughter, and a considerate friend. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. But her memory will live forever in their hearts.”

Statement from Michael R. Casaretto, the lawyer representing Brandon Dickerson:

On February 3, 2026 in the 85th District Court, Brandon Dickerson of Bryan formally entered his plea of guilty to the Murder charge stemming from the incident on the evening of February 7, 2025.

Mr. Dickerson is sincerely remorseful for the actions of that night. Further, as evidenced in his plea, he takes full responsibility for his actions and accepts the punishment accessed in this case by Judge Kyle Hawthorne.

While this is a very difficult set of facts and evidence to work through, the defense commends the District Attorney’s Office for their continued professionalism throughout the course of this case.
