Multiple Agencies Battle Monday Afternoon Grass Fire In South College Station

Downed power lines were the cause of a grass fire Monday (M) afternoon in south College Station.

No one was hurt and no structures were damaged, though some homes were threatened west of the intersection of Wellborn Road and Barron Cut Off.

The College Station fire department reported multiple agencies were called out to the fire in the 4000 block of Cody Drive.

That resulted in 35 firefighters and 17 vehicles from multiple departments (five grass trucks, three tenders, four engines, one ladder truck, one safety officer, one rehab vehicle, one ambulance, and one command vehicle) being on the scene for the better part of two hours.

About ten acres were burned, as firefighters dealt with northwest winds between 15 and 30 miles per hour.
