MSC OPAS has announced five Broadway musicals are coming to Rudder Auditorium for the 2021-2022 season.
Three of the five…RENT, Fiddler on the Roof, and the Carole King musical Beautiful…were supposed to be here last year before they were cancelled by the pandemic. The other Broadway shows are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a new musical based on the film An Officer and a Gentleman.
Tickets go on sale Monday morning for the musicals and a one night concert featuring six world class musicians synced to video projections of classic cartoons and contemporary animation.
And tickets remain available for previously announced concerts by Michael Cavanaugh, J. Robert Spencer (7000 Miles to Broadway), The Kingdom Choir and The Barricade Boys.
More information on all performances is at mscopas.org.
News release from MSC OPAS:
OPAS is pleased to announce that Broadway is heading back to Rudder Auditorium with five big musicals scheduled for the “Let’s Get Together” 2021-2022 season. After what will have been nearly two years without a Broadway national tour performance at Texas A&M University, blockbuster musicals get back to a sweet start with the family-friendly Broadway smash Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (November 9-10 • Sponsored by Blue Bell).
The new year brings even more Broadway programs. In 2022, OPAS welcomes Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (February 4-5 • Sponsored by Aggieland Credit Union), the 25th Anniversary Tour of RENT (February 16-17), an all-new musical based on the hit film An Officer and A Gentleman (March 8-9) and Fiddler on the Roof (March 28-29 • Sponsored by Brookshire Brothers).
In addition to the Broadway line-up, OPAS is also announcing a performance on the Intimate Gatherings series (sponsored by Comfort Keepers). The newly added program to that series, performed in Rudder Theatre, is a one-night-only concert by The Queen’s Cartoonists on March 24. Hailing from Queens, New York, The Queen’s Cartoonists is comprised of six world-class musicians performing a concert filled with music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation – synchronized to video projections of the original films!
OPAS Executive Director Anne Black explains, “In the spring of 2020, the pandemic hit just before our three big musicals were to be in Rudder as part of the “Tapestry” season – Beautiful, Fiddler on the Roof and RENT. The buzz centered around those musicals was positively palpable. So, we are thrilled these three musicals are back on the schedule.” She continues, “But that’s not all. After more than a year of no Broadway shows, three musicals just aren’t enough. That’s why we also have two new musicals on the season, both based on films, An Officer and a Gentleman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
The MSC Box Office will begin taking ticket orders for season ticket packages and single tickets on Monday, September 20 at 9 AM (979-845-1234 • boxoffice.tamu.edu). Packages include a build-your-own Broadway four-pack starting as low as $110.
Tickets to the previously announced concerts by Michael Cavanaugh, J. Robert Spencer (7000 Miles to Broadway), The Kingdom Choir and The Barricade Boys are already on sale at the box office. For more information about all OPAS performances and ticket options, please visit www.MSCOPAS.org.
Black summarizes, “Now more than ever, ticket purchases and donations help ensure the future of OPAS. And remember, this is our 49th season. Wait until you see what we have in store for the upcoming 50th anniversary season of OPAS!”
