MLB, MLBPA Agrees to Keep “Ghost Runner” Rule for 2022

Major League Baseball is bringing back its “ghost runner” rule for a third straight season.

MLB and the MLB Players association agreed on Thursday to keep the rule, which allows each team an automatic runner on second base beginning in extra innings.

The ghost runner was initially implemented during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
