(BRYAN, TX) — The City of Bryan is celebrating another major economic development milestone as Messer, the world’s largest privately held industrial gases company, announced plans to make a major investment to construct a state-of-the-art air separation unit (ASU) in Bryan.
Expected to be completed in late 2027, the new facility will expand Messer’s presence in Central Texas and support a broad range of industries, including food and beverage, healthcare, manufacturing, metals, chemicals and aerospace. The project represents a significant addition to Bryan’s growing industrial sector and reinforces the community’s ability to attract major private-sector investment.
For Bryan, the announcement represents more than a new industrial facility — it is another indication that the community is competing successfully for transformative investment on a national stage. “When a company like Messer chooses Bryan, it sends a clear message,” said Todd McDaniel, Director of Economic Development. “Bryan is competing successfully with the nation’s leading communities for transformative investment. Messer didn’t simply choose a site — they chose Bryan, Texas. Their decision is a powerful endorsement of our workforce, infrastructure, business climate, quality of life and the long-term vision we’ve worked hard to build. Mayor Bobby Gutierrez said Bryan’s continued success is the result of years of intentional planning and investment. “Bryan continues to attract nationally recognized companies like Messer because we’ve intentionally created an environment where businesses can invest, grow and succeed,” Gutierrez said. “We’re proud to welcome Messer to our community and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
City Manager Andrew Nelson said the project benefits the entire region. “This investment strengthens our economy, creates high-quality jobs, expands our tax base and positions Bryan and the entire Brazos Valley for sustained long-term growth,” Nelson said. “It’s another example of what can be accomplished through strong partnerships, strategic planning and a shared commitment to building Bryan’s future.”
Messer officials stated Bryan’s strategic location, infrastructure and business-friendly environment made the community an ideal location for the company’s newest investment. “This ASU will provide a reliable supply of industrial gases to meet the requirements of local industries, which include food and beverage, healthcare, metals, manufacturing, chemicals and aerospace,” said Elena Skvortsova, President and CEO of Messer Americas. “We appreciate the support of the City of Bryan, Brazos County and members of the Bryan business community who supported this project.
