As College Station grows, Mayor Pro Tem Karl Mooney says the development of the medical corridor will especially benefit the community, and the opening of the new Scott and White hospital on August first will make a big difference.
Mooney says that having local service adds a whole new level of quality care, and gradually, with the long-term plan that Scott and White has for the area, it’s going to be an unusual occurrence that people need to go to Houston or Temple for treatment.
He says it makes for a much more attractive community, and the goal is to bring in new people while enhancing services for those already in the area.
Meanwhile, Mooney says the development of a College Station city center within ten years might not be too farfetched.
He says when you observe developing communities, one of the first things they do is establish a city center, and he’s excited about the possibility of being able to go locally to downtown restaurants and stores that have a focal point like a fountain, maybe even a new city hall.
Mooney says they currently have great cooperation and are looking at setting up a municipal management district for the area.
