March Bryan Council Meeting Ends With A Citizen’s Comments And The Mayor’s Response About Medians

A Bryan man is jailed on a charge of scamming a 79 year old woman out of $55,100 dollars. A Bryan police spokesman tells WTAW News that none of the money that was taken has been recovered. The BPD arrest report says the man was able to convince the woman that her son was arrested and needed money to pay lawyers and for bonds. Three times on the same day in February, the woman gave different ride share drivers $18,500, $14,600, and $22,000 dollars. The victim said the suspect called the next day wanting more money. That’s when she realized it was a scam. Because the victim was given information about the ride share drivers, investigators found the drivers. The drivers reported giving the money that was in boxes to the suspect in the same parking lot of a Houston Walmart neighborhood market. 32 year old Manuel Paredes, who was charged with felony theft involving an elderly victim, is jailed as of March 25th in lieu of a $150,000 dollar bond. The burn ban for unincorporated areas of Brazos County has been lifted. County judge Duane Peters agreed with the recommendation of the county’s four rural fire chiefs and emergency management coordinator (EMC). EMC Jason Ware reported at Tuesday’s county commission meeting (March 25) that there has been enough recent rainfall and the forecast of more rain for later this week. Ware emphasized to landowners to not leave controlled burns unattended, report controlled burns by calling the 9-1-1 non emergency phone number, which is 979-361-3888, and have a way to extinguish the fire if it gets out of control. A Navasota man who ran away from a Bryan police officer and a private investigator while in handcuffs last Thursday (March 20) was caught the following night. 21 year old Tony Bolden is held without bond on a warrant from Waller County charging him with evading arrest. A second warrant was issued in Brazos County on a charge of failing to identify himself. And Bolden faces a new charge of evading with prior convictions in Brazos and Grimes counties. Bonds in the Brazos County cases totals $110,000 dollars. A College Station man appears in Brazos County district court and admitted to four counts of felony evading arrest with prior convictions and two felony thefts. Online court records show a plea agreement between 51 year old Reginald Webber and the district attorney’s office includes a ten year prison sentence for the six felony crimes that took place between 2018 and 2023.
