MANOR, Texas (AP) _ Austin-area police have arrested a man who they say assaulted his ex-wife and set a house fire that killed his daughter’s dog.
Manor police have charged 61-year-old Olen Gist with first-degree felony arson, cruelty to animals and assaulting a family member. He was being held Tuesday morning at the Travis County Jail on $75,000 bond.
Police say Gist was with his ex-wife and daughter on Thursday when an argument started. They say he punched his ex-wife in the head and left.
Gist tells police he found a can of gasoline in the home after his daughter left to visit his ex-wife in the hospital. He says he poured it around the home and ignited it. The dog was later found dead in the garage.
Online jail records didn’t list an attorney for Gist.
