Man Arrested for Helping Wife Commit Suicide

HOUSTON (AP) _ A Houston-area man is jailed on a felony charge of aiding a suicide after the death of his wife.

Mark A. Kelly remained in Harris County Jail on Monday after the Saturday death of his wife, 49-year-old Sonia Marie Dixon.

Harris County sheriff’s Deputy Tom Gilliland tells the Houston Chronicle that Kelly, 47, called Saturday to report his wife’s death. He told deputies he and his wife were having financial trouble and that she wanted to kill herself.

Gilliland says Kelly bought and set up components for a suicide bag, a common technique for asphyxiating oneself. He said he left and returned a few hours later to find his wife dead.

Kelly’s attorney, Dionne Susan Press, did not return a message seeking comment.
