ORLANDO, Fla. – Following a resounding 6-2, 6-3 victory in the NCAA Individual Championships Doubles Round of 16, the No. 20-ranked Texas A&M women’s tennis pairing of Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith defeated No. 5-ranked Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami of North Carolina State to advance to the Quarterfinals, also warranting recognition as an ITA All-American Doubles Team in the process.
After splitting the opening two games of the first set, Makarova and Goldsmith went on a tear, never surrendering a service game and dominating a pair of deuce points to win the first stanza by a 6-2 margin. A&M’s premier doubles team continued with that same level of play in what proved to be the final set of the match, winning each service game and breaking their NC State opponents in critical moments to finalize the 6-2, 6-3 score.
In victory, the No. 20 pairing of Makarova and Goldsmith automatically qualify as an ITA All-American Doubles Team by advancing to the National Quarterfinals. This level of success on the national stage has only been reached by one other A&M doubles team, with Rachel Pierson and Rutuja Bhosale ascending to All-American status in Mark Weaver’s second season as a head coach. Additionally, Makarova and Goldsmith have tied the Texas A&M record for victories by a doubles team in the NCAA Individual Championships with their 2-0 record through their first two matches.
The Aggie pair improves to 20-11 overall with eight successful outings against ranked doubles opposition. Tuesday’s victory over the ITA No. 5 duo marks a new career-best ranked win for both Makarova and Goldsmith since joining the Texas A&M program. Their previous career high was set in the SEC Tournament Final against then-No. 6 Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arsenault of Georgia.
After their historic success in the Round of 16, Makarova and Goldsmith continue their journey in Central Florida and get set to take on the No. 21-ranked duo of Rosie Johanson and Emma Navarro of Virginia. The winner of that match will advance to the NCAA Doubles Semifinals and continue their quest for a National Championship.

Head Coach Mark Weaver
On Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith’s historic performance…
“Coach Jordan Szabo and I are very proud and extremely happy for both Jayci and Tatiana. They are now our second All-American doubles team in the history of our program, and they’ve made it just as far in the national tournament as any doubles team we’ve ever had. As a team overall, we struggled a bit in the doubles this season. So, this extraordinary performance should be something that’s very encouraging for our girls going forward.”
