Bryan City Council held a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night. The hot topic of the night was medians. Council approved a special charter amendment election for the November ballot that will let voters will decide whether some 5 miles of medians along Texas Avenue stay — or go. The vote will cover medians from Highway 21 to Rosemary Drive. But, the vote doesn’t necessarily mean they’re coming out immediately. According to the City’s website, “If the amendment passes in the November election, it may be necessary for a court to evaluate the proposed amendment to determine whether it is valid and if the city has the authority to enforce it. The city and taxpayers will take on the expenses associated with holding the election as well as any court costs.” Council also approved a contract for medical plan administration with Blue Cross Blue Shield for $4.7-million. Another $2.1-million to purchase city vehicles. And, there will be a public hearing at the September 8th meeting on placing a cap on the tax rate of approximately 62-cents per $100 of valuation.
