Local Non-Profit to Set Guinness World Record

Mercy Project, a Bryan-College Station based non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating child slavery, will attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for longest baseball game played this weekend.

Mercy Project’s Strike Out Slavery is an attempt to play a continuous game of baseball for 49 straight hours. The game will feature 56 players from around Texas between the ages of 17 and 50.

If successful, this will be Mercy Project’s third world record in the last three years. Two years ago they played kickball for 50 hours and last year they played flag football for 24 hours.

Chris Field of Mercy Project said the ultimate goals of this event are to create awareness about the plight of child slaves around the world and raise money that will directly help children in slavery in Ghana, Africa. He said they estimate the event will raise more than $30,000.

The game starts at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 30th and will end at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 1st. Admission is free.
