Lehrmann Wins Supreme Court Runoff

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Longtime family law judge Debra Lehrmann has won a Republican runoff for a Texas Supreme Court nomination.

Lehrmann beat Rick Green — an ex-legislator with tea party appeal — on Tuesday night. She tried to convince voters he lacked the experience to sit on the state’s highest civil court.

Green is an evangelical speaker from Dripping Springs who once punched a rival outside a polling place. Despite having limited court experience, Green said he had the credentials for the court.

It was the only statewide office on Tuesday’s runoff ballot.

Green finished first and Lehrmann second in a six-candidate Republican field last month. The winner faces Democrat Jim Sharp in November.
