The HealthPoint Board of Directors has named Mary Wauters (pictured on the left) as Interim Chief Executive Officer of HealthPoint, effective immediately.

Wauters will step into the role following the departure of Terri Sabella, RN, JD, PhD, (pictured on the right) who has accepted a chief executive position with another federally qualified health center in Washington. This opportunity allows her to continue her leadership at another federally qualified health center while also providing the added benefit of being closer to family.

“The board is confident that Mary is the right leader to guide HealthPoint during this transition,” said Mike Sutherland, Chair of the HealthPoint Board of Directors. “She brings deep operational expertise, steady leadership, and a strong commitment to our mission. Mary understands our patients, our communities, and our teams, and we are grateful for her willingness to serve in this capacity.”

Wauters currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of HealthPoint and has been an integral part of the organization’s executive leadership team. In her role as COO, she has overseen clinic operations, strategic growth initiatives and quality improvement efforts across HealthPoint’s service area. Her leadership has helped expand access to comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals and families throughout the Brazos Valley and surrounding communities.

“I am honored to serve as Interim CEO and to continue working alongside our dedicated board, leadership team, and staff,” Wauters said. “HealthPoint’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality care to our communities remains our guiding focus. I am committed to ensuring continuity for our patients, supporting our employees, and maintaining the strong partnerships that allow us to meet the growing needs of the region.”

HealthPoint is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing comprehensive primary care, behavioral health, dental, and enabling services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. The organization remains financially strong and operationally stable, and the board has initiated a process to determine next steps for permanent executive leadership.

“The strength of HealthPoint lies in its people and its mission,” Sutherland added. “With Mary’s leadership and the continued dedication of our staff, we are well positioned to move forward and continue advancing whole-person care across the communities we serve.”
