A Brazos County Detention Officer was arrested by the College Station Police Department early Tuesday. 26-year-old Dwayne Andre Richards was off duty at the time of the incident. An investigation by College Station Police resulted in the arrest of Richards on charges of Family Violence Assault/Household Member Impeding Breath or Circulation and Interfering with an Emergency Call. Following notification of the arrest, the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office initiated an internal investigation and Richards has been suspended pending the outcome of that investigation. Richards was employed as a Detention Officer since August of 2024. As of Tuesday evening, he remained jailed on $20,000 bond. The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office says they strive “to be open and engaged with the community we serve. Our community expects a high level of professionalism, accountability, and integrity from everyone who serves with the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, and we share those same expectations.”
Entergy has notified the City of Madisonville that there will be scheduled electric outages for maintenance on Wednesday, August 26th. 9:00pm-11:00pm — affects 51 customers on the South side of E. Main Street with sections of E. Morris, Ship, and Anchor being affected. The only non-residential account affected is the Iglesia Cristiana church on 810 Anchor Street. 12:00am-3:00am — affects 66 customers on the North side of E. Main Street with sections of Magnolia, Farview, Harrell, Ship, and Minden streets being affected. The only non-residential impact is the Auto Zone @ 605 E. Main Street and the Brogdon building on 200 N. Harrell Street.
It was an incredibly brief meeting of the Bryan City Council tonight. The special meeting was called to hold a public hearing for the proposed $569-million budget. No one signed up to speak, so all agenda items were completed in less than five minutes. The consent agenda was approved unanimously, which included spending in the amount of $10.6-million. A dilapidated home at 805 Boulevard Street will be demolished and rebuilt in association with HUD grants. Funds for this project are from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) grant. The purpose of the program is to assist eligible low- and moderate-income homeowner-occupants with rehabilitating and/or reconstructing their homes by eliminating housing code violations and acute maintenance issues that affect health, safety, sustainability, energy efficiency, and accessibility for special needs households. Funding assistance will be made through a thirty (30) year, zero percent (0%) interest secured repayment note of $136,168.43, with monthly payments on the balance, and a deferred repayable subsidy of $45,000. A Backup Dispatch Facility Agreement between the City of Bryan, City of College Station, Brazos County, and the Brazos County Emergency Communications District for the operation of a Backup Dispatch Facility was approved. The Cities of Bryan and College Station will each pay 35% of the lease, and Brazos County will pay the remaining 30%. $7,629,171 for the 911 District budget, and $2,769,028 for a dispatch agreement. $104,544.33 with Elder-Aid, Inc., to facilitate the development of a low-to-moderate income rental home for occupancy by a qualified elderly household. In this case, 2002 Avenue C. The only item on the regular agenda was the re-appointment of three individuals to the Destination Bryan Board of Directors: Spencer Clements, Wade Beckman, and Kindra Fry. Consent Agenda: A. Funding contract in the amount of $104,544.33 with Elder-Aid, Inc., for development of 2002 Avenue C in response to Request for Proposal (RFP) 26-042, and authorize the Mayor to execute the Land Use Restriction Agreement.
