Kroger Store Credit/Debit/Gift Card Payment System Down Part Of Christmas Eve

‘Twas the afternoon before Christmas when shoppers at Kroger corporation grocery stores were not able to pay with credit, debit, and gift cards.

According to Twitter posts from customers and the media, the nationwide outage lasted from 20 minutes to two hours.

That resulted in long lines not only at checkout, but at in-store ATM’s as shoppers scrambled to get cash.

Some who didn’t want to wait left shopping carts behind and walked out.

Kroger issued a brief statement to some newsrooms apologizing for the outage but not explaining the cause.

As of Christmas afternoon, no information was on Kroger’s website, Twitter, or Facebook pages.

WTAW News sent e-mails Christmas Eve evening to Kroger representatives in Houston, Dallas, and their corporate headquarters in Cincinnati.

Kroger has more than 20 brands covering more than 2,700 grocery stores. Kroger’s statement did not indicate if the outage also affected more than 1,500 fuel centers and more than 250 jewelry stores.
