Your Easter weekend plans may include visiting a park. And that invitation comes with reminders of the wildllfe you might encounter.

Sheila Walker at the College Station Parks and Recreation Department says employees at Wolf Pen Creek Park preparing for upcoming events were surprised this week by the discovery of a snake.

According to Walker’s blog, the Texas rat snake, which is not venomous, was relocated to a less-developed area of the park.

Walker also says they’ve been monitoring a couple of nests of Killdeer bird eggs on the ground between the park office and the arts center.

Sheila Walker visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.

Walker says animals and plants have protected status in city parks. She says if you have a similar encounter call her office at 979-764-6385 or Animal Control at 979-764-3600.

Walker says to help visitors identify different snakes in Wolf Pen Creek Park, photos are posted at the kiosk near the wolf sculpture at the park entrance on Holleman Drive.
