Katy Store Sells Winning Mega Millions Ticket

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A ticket sold at a Houston-area convenience store is the grand prize winner in Friday’s $144 million Mega Millions drawing.

A Texas Lottery Commission statement issued Monday says the ticket was sold at a Short Stop market in Katy. According to the statement, that makes the store eligible for a $1 million retailer bonus.

Commission Deputy Executive Director Gary Grief says the commission is still waiting for the ticket holder to come forward and claim the jackpot.

Meanwhile, Texas has begun selling tickets in the nation’s other multistate, big-jackpot lottery game, Powerball. The first Powerball drawing for which Texas tickets will be eligible will be Wednesday night. The estimated jackpot is $107 million.
