Jury Returns Verdict in Record Time

GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) _ A jury deliberated less than a minute before convicting a man of attacking his girlfriend in a 2008 beating stopped by a Taylor policeman.

Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley said Wednesday the same jury took a little over an hour to decide on a 16-year prison term for Jose Villarreal, 34.

Bradley says the woman recovered from the Aug. 18 attack.

The officer testified before Villarreal, who had a domestic assault conviction in Harris County with a different girlfriend, was convicted Tuesday of family violence assault.

Bradley, when asked by The Associated Press whether he thought jurors spent enough time evaluating the evidence, said it was an “appropriate question.”

But Bradley says the officer clearly arrived at the scene and personally observed “this defendant in a ditch pummeling this poor woman.”
