The College Station City Council now has one contested race for the upcoming May election.
Click to hear WTAW’s Chris Clift talk with Tony Jones:
Jones is a candidate for the Place 2 seat being vacated by James Massey, who chose not to run for re-election.
He has lived in College Station for 42 years, and has served on Council, School Board and as a County Commissioner.
Jones says he generally supports the idea of a convention center, but he needs to see more details about the project.
He also says the citizens should get a chance to vote prior to any convention center being built.
The citizens of Wellborn were recently denied a chance to vote to incorporate, and Jones does not agree with that decision.
Another issue Jones talks about is the environment for new development in College Station.
He says the City generally makes development harder than it needs to be and that should change.
Jones also wants to see increased communication both between Council members and with College Station and other groups such as Bryan and Brazos County.
He can be reached by calling 219-8669.
Jess Fields has also filed paperwork to run for the Place 2 seat, and the filing period remains open until March 8.
