Jones Executed Wednesday

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ A man convicted of killing a Dallas hospital worker during a carjacking more than 17 years ago has been executed in Texas.

36-year-old George Jones exhausted his court appeals and his lawyer made no last-day attempts to block the lethal injection Wednesday night.

It was the 12th execution this year in the nation’s busiest death penalty state.

Jones was arrested five months after the body of 22-year-old Forest Hall was found along a rural road in April 1993. Prosecutors say Jones twice shot Hall in the head after he and an accomplice abducted Hall and took his car from a Dallas shopping mall.

In his final statement, Jones told Hall’s relatives that he hoped the punishment “brings you closure and some type of peace.”
