SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A former South Texas jailer has been sentenced to two years in prison for taking bribes to give a murder suspect hacksaw blades hidden in tacos.
The Bexar County jury determined the sentence of Alfred Casas on Thursday. He also got 20 years of probation and a $15,000 fine after almost six hours of jury deliberations.
The day before, jurors found him guilty of two bribery counts and one of providing an implement for escape.
Prosecutors say Casas accepted prescription drugs in return for smuggling the blades to murder suspect Jacob Keller as part of a December 2009 escape plot. The blades were found during a random search.
Keller is serving 21 years in prison after pleading guilty in January to an April 2009 double slaying.
