14-Year-Old Killed, 3 Others Shot During Block Party Saturday Night Bryan

On Saturday night, Bryan Police were called to a street party in the 1200 block of West 17th Street just after 10:30pm. Officials say that shortly after officers arrived, they heard several gunshots and the crowd dispersed. Police found three victims at the scene, including 14-year-old D’Antwon Miles. He was shot in the torso and pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital. A 14-year-old female suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper leg. She was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital. A 42-year-old female suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the buttock. She was admitted to St. Joseph Hospital and is listed in stable condition. A fourth victim was found nearby in the 1200 block of Lowery. The 17-year-old male was shot in the upper arm. He was treated and released from Baylor Scott and White Hospital. Two vehicles in the 1200 block of West 17th and one vehicle in the 900 block of Harlem Lane were struck by bullets fired during the altercation. Bryan Police Chief Dean Swartzlander said, “A 14-year-old lost his life and several others were injured as a result of this senseless act of violence. The Bryan Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of D’Antwon Miles during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy.” The preliminary investigation has revealed that two groups of individuals began shooting at each other on West 17th Street, but a motive for the shooting has not been determined. Bryan Police Detectives are committed to determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identifying those responsible. Teenager Arrested for Stealing Labubu from Post Oak Mall

17-year-old Ja’kayla Ruiz was arrested Friday after trying to steal popular Labubu dolls from Spencer’s located inside Post Oak Mall. Ruiz and a juvenile worked together to steal two Labubu blind boxes priced at $54.99 each. Video surveillance confirmed that the pair coordinated to distract store staff and grab the dolls. When police asked Ruiz why she stole the dolls, she reportedly said, “Why not?” She was arrested and charged with Theft of Property over $100, but less than $750, a Class B Misdeameanor. Ruiz was released on $3,000 bond. Reports did not say what happened to the juvenile.

Woman Arrested For 36th Time After Shoplifting at Walmart

A Bryan woman is in jail for the 36th time. 52-year-old Kesha Latrice Jenkins was arrested Friday after shoplifting at the West Bryan Walmart. Police were called to the store in the 600 block of North Harvey Mitchell Parkway around noon, after receiving a call of a theft in progress. The store’s asset protection team said a woman on a motorized scooter was placing items into a handbag. Officers spotted Jenkins on the scooter in the store’s parking lot. When she spotted the officer, she got off the scooter and began running towards a vehicle. She was apprehended while trying to enter that vehicle. It was revealed that Jenkins tried to steal dish soap, trash bags, a Zevo insect killer, body lotion, perfume, Fabuloso, and several clothing items valued at $145.02. Jenkins also had an active criminal trespass warning for the store at the time. She was arrested for criminal trespass, evading arrest, and theft of property less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions. According to the arrest records, Jenkins has seven previous convictions for theft, most recently in December 2024. She remains jailed on 18,000 bond.
