The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate at the Brazos County Jail has died after being experiencing a medical emergency.
Officials say that on Sunday, August 23, 2026, a 59-year-old man was conscious when he transported via EMS to a local hospital. His condition deteriorated and despite continued efforts by medical professionals, he was pronounced deceased.
At this time, there are no indications of suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. A thorough investigation is underway, and the Texas Rangers will conduct an independent investigation, which is standard in cases involving an in-custody death.
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has been notified. A Custodial Death Report will also be submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office in accordance with state law.
