Original story:

The City of West has announced the organization of a volunteer management and donation department.

Relief supplies can now be picked up for those needing water, food, and clothing at the Westfest grounds from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.

The Westfest grounds will serve as the primary check in point for all donated goods and volunteers for the community. If you want to volunteer, please check in at the Westfest grounds security office beginning at 8:00 am and you will be directed to locations throughout West community that need your services and support.

“We have been blessed with the outpouring of support for supplies, food, water and financial donations which have been much needed and greatly appreciated” according to Jim Gerik, Public Information Office, Volunteer Management and Donation Information Center. “What we need at this time are building materials, appliances and household furniture to help start the rebuilding effort.”

These materials are being accepted at the Hillsboro Outlet Mall in Hillsboro, Texas off of Interstate 35 at Suite 175.

Financial donations are most needed and can be mailed to POINTWEST Bank or the State National Bank in West, Texas or by going to www.pointwestbank.com and making an on line donation via Paypal. Donations can be designated to the following:
Victims of West Explosion General Fund: West ISD, Knights of Columbus, and West Rest Haven nursing home.

A care and assistance center for animals and pets has been established to help reunite pets separated from their families. If you have a lost and/or found animal, please call Jennifer at (254) 709-6701. Any lost or injured animals not located at the fairgrounds will be taken to the Waco Shelter.
