A Second Bryan Man Is Found Guilty Of A November 2022 Murder

A second Bryan man is headed to prison for a murder in November 2022 where there was an exchange of gunfire during an attempted armed robbery. The Brazos County district attorney’s office says 26 year old Preston Thurmon testified that he and his accomplice took guns into a house and there was gunfire as they were attempting to steal money. The DA’s news release says a jury took less than 20 minutes to find Thurmon guilty. Then the jury sentenced Thurmon to 65 years. Another jury in July 2025 convicted 24 year old Armando Mejia and he was sentenced to 22 years and ordered to pay a fine of $5,900 dollars. News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office about the Preston Thurmon trial: Preston Thurmon, 26, was sentenced to 65 years in prison on Friday, May 8 by a Brazos County Jury. The same jury convicted Thurmon of murder on Thursday, May 7 following less than 20 minutes of deliberation. On November 30, 2022, Thurmon and his co-defendant, Armando Mejia, went to a home on Cavitt Ave in Bryan around 10:00 in the morning to steal drugs and money. While holding the victim, Da-vid Lopez, at gunpoint and demanding property, the two were confronted by the victim’s brother, who shot Mejia in the leg. Both Thurmon and Mejia returned fire after shooting the victim one time in the chest. They fled the scene and left the area in Thurmon’s vehicle. Detectives with the Bryan Police Department were able to track the defendants’ movements with surveillance camera footage in the area of the murder, including video of both Thurmon and Mejia in the convenience store near the murder an hour prior. In that video, detectives were able to identify an image on Thurmon’s sweatshirt by looking through social media. On January 11, 2023, officers executed a search warrant at Thurmon’s home, where they found the sweat-shirt Thurmon wore at the time of the murder. They also collected Thurmon’s phone, which contained evidence linking him to the crime. Thurmon was taken into custody on that day. During an interview with detectives, as well as on the stand during his trial, Thurmon confessed to going to the home with Mejia in order to commit robbery of a person living there. He also admitted that both he and Mejia took guns to the house as part of the robbery and that the victim was shot while they were attempting to get money from him and get away. Statement from assistant Brazos County district attorneys Kara Comte and Caleb Beacham: “The defendant took a human life over money and marijuana, and this sentence reflects the devastating and irreversible impact of that decision. This level of violence in Brazos County will not be tolerated.”

Brazos County Commissioners Questioned About Nearly Doubling The Budget To Maintain The Downtown Bryan Parking Garage

Brazos County commissioners are questioned about nearly doubling the budget to maintain the downtown Bryan parking garage. The county took over control from the Brazos Transit District in April of 2025. Before commissioners approved a budget amendment at its May 5th meeting, public speaker Cathie Viens questioned adding $20,000 dollars on top of the original maintenance budget of $23,000 dollars. County budget officer Nina Payne said repairs were needed that could not be delayed until the start of the next fiscal year. Viens also questioned if more money will be requested for garage maintenance. Bryan Police Arrests Of A Mother And A Daughter, A 17 Year Old Driver, And A Man Released From Jail Earlier The Same Day

Six Bryan police officers respond to the report at an apartment complex west of Blinn College of what turned out to be a mother pointing a gun at her daughter. BPD arrest reports say the mother, 46 year old Andrea Miles, pointed the gun she carries as an armed security guard at her daughter, 30 year old Bryanna Miles, who damaged her mother’s car. That followed an argument over the daughter vaping inside her mother’s apartment. The mother was taken to jail on a felony charge of family violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the daughter went to jail on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. As of May 14, both women remain in jail. The mother’s bond was set at $25,000 dollars and the daughter’s bond was set at $3,000 dollars. A Bryan police officer who recognized a driver who does not have a license led to a chase that ended when the suspect’s car struck and knocked down a railroad crossing arm. After the driver and a passenger were checked out on the scene at the crossing on West 28th Street, both went to jail. The 17 year old driver, Jaykub Melendez of Bryan, was charged with evading, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and evidence tampering for throwing out the marijuana during the chase. Melendez remains jailed as of May 14 in lieu of bonds totaling $32,000 dollars. The 16 year old passenger was arrested for possessing marijuana and evidence tampering as well as a warrant in a prior case for obstruction or retaliation. A Bryan man returns to the Brazos County jail for public intoxication the same day he is released after serving time for his sixth conviction of the same offense in the last three and a half years. Online records also show it’s the 34th time in seven years that 29 year old Eddie Davis II went to jail since June of 2019. A Bryan police arrest report says Davis returned to jail following a disturbance in the emergency room at St. Joseph’s hospital. As of May 14, Davis remains jailed in lieu of a $4,000 dollar bond.
