Bicyclist Killed After Being Hit By Car

A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car on Saturday. According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, they were called to the 23000 block of FM 159 near Millican just before 10am on July 18th. They say 26-year-old Hannah Rapp was lying in the roadway and transported to Baylor Scott and White where she was later pronounced dead. After an investigation, 31-year-old Charles Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Records show that Rapp and her boyfriend were cycling along FM 159 when they were passed at a high rate of speed and within approximately one foot of them. According to arrest records, as Medina drove past, the boyfriend threw his arms into the air. That’s when Medina reportedly skidded to a stop, threw his car into reverse, and backed into Repp. Medina claims he thought the couple was trying to flag him down, which is why he skidded to a stop and backed up. He was arrested and charged with Manslaughter. He is being held at the Brazos County Jail on $250,000 bond. Medina has been jailed in Brazos County on 12 previous occasions. Charges include Reckless Driving, Possession, Family Violence Assault, Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief, and Deadly Conduct Discharge of a Firearm.

College Station Fire Department Battles Apartment and Boat Fires

College Station firefighters had a busy weekend. On Saturday afternoon, heavy plumes of smoke could be seen coming from the western parts of town, but it wasn’t the usual smoke coming from TEEX. A boat in front of a home on Gridiron near Jones Butler caught fire. CSFD was able to extinguish the fire before it could affect surrounding homes. That evening, firefighters responded to an apartment complex on Airline Drive near Longmire Drive. Upon arrival, one unit was completely involved.

New Speed Limits on Texas A&M Campus

Texas A&M announced Friday that some speed limits will be changing around campus. The announcement says the changes are an effort to improve safety. The university will be updating signs and limits beginning on July 27th and they hope to have the work completed by August 21st, in time for the fall semester.
