How To Serve On A College Station City Board, Committee, or Commission Seminar Monday
Maybe you don’t have the time to commit a role on the city council, but you still want to make a difference? Now you can! The City of College Station is hosting a seminar on how you can serve on one of the city’s committees, boards, and commissions. The Committee, Board, and Commission 101 Seminar will take place on Monday, October 12th at 6:00pm in the Bush 4141 Community Room at City Hall. The session will help you understand the requirements, duties, and limitations of serving, while also describing City staff’s role and how the meeting bodies help address local issues. To qualify, you only need to be a registered voter and live in College Station. Learn more at cstx.gov/committees. You can also contact the City Secretary’s Office at cso@cstx.gov or 979-764-3541. Applications will be accepted until deadline is 5:00pm December 31, 2026. City Council will make appointments in January. Grimes County Fugitive Apprehended in Montgomery County
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office announced the recent capture of a fugitive. Grimes County Crime Stoppers published information about 36-year-old Preston William Cole Ashley on Tuesday. Ashley was tracked to Montgomery County and apprehended on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 2:00pm. He was booked into the Grimes County Jail on outstanding warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Terroristic Threat Against a Family Member. Free College Application Week 10/12/26 – 10/18/26
Potential college bound students and their families can apply to Texas colleges for free. Free College Application Week is a statewide initiative that helps Texas residents apply to public colleges at no cost. Created by Senate Bill 2231 during the 89th Texas Legislative Session, all public colleges and universities in Texas are required to waive admission application fees for Texas residents who apply to undergraduate programs through Apply Texas. There are no age restrictions, so whether you’re a first-time college student, a transfer, or going back to school, you’re eligible so long as you meet residency requirements and register through Apply Texas. Free College Application Week is Monday, October 12th through Sunday, October 18th. Completed applications must be submitted through ApplyTexas by 11:59 p.m. CDT on Sunday, October 18, 2026 to qualify. Applications that are started but not submitted before Free College Application Week ends are not eligible.
