Bryan Police Say Skeletal Remains Found May Belong to Missing Female
The Bryan Police Department says the skeletal remains uncovered Wednesday are believed to be those of a female. An identification card was located near the remains and after making contacting with family, they confirmed that their loved one has been missing for an extended period of time. A surveying crew located the remains yesterday in the 5900 block of Jones Road, near what is believed to be a homeless encampment. The preliminary identification is not being released. The remains will now be the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification. They will conduct a complete examination, including DNA analysis, and dental comparisons, in hopes of confirming the decedent’s identity.
City of College Station Encourages Residents To Utilize Cooling Stations
A heat advisory will be in effect through Friday evening. Temperatures will be in the triple digits and the heat index could reach 108 degrees. The City of College Station encourages residents who need a break from the heat to take advantage of cooling stations around town. The following air-conditioned municipal facilities are open to the public during normal business hours Thursday and Friday: Lincoln Recreation Center: 1000 Eleanor St. | 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Meyer Senior and Community Center: 2275 Dartmouth St. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Southwood Community Center: 1520 Rock Prairie Road | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. City Hall: 1101 Texas Ave. S. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Gary Halter Nature Center: 3555 Rock Prairie Road W. | 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Larry J. Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Heat Safety Guidelines Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions during periods of extreme weather: Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid sugary, caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. Check-In: Frequently check on elderly neighbors, family members and pets to ensure they have adequate cooling. Know the Signs: Monitor yourself and others for heat-related illnesses: Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, headache and nausea. Heat Stroke (Emergency): High body temperature, confusion, rapid pulse and a lack of sweating. Call 911 immediately if heat stroke is suspected. City of Bryan Announces New Parks & Recreation App
Exploring all that the City of Bryan Parks, Recreation & Facility Services Department has to offer is easier than ever, thanks to the recent launch of a new mobile app. The free Bryan Parks & Recreation app is now available for iPhone and Android, and features simple ways to register for programs, rent facilities, find facility passes, and receive up-to-the minute program notifications at your fingertips. An account is required, however, the app utilizes the same user account information as the city’s parks registration website, allowing for a seamless transition between the website and the mobile app. Residents who are new to parks registration should create their account on the registration website before downloading the app. While the new app offers streamlined registration, options to make reservations by phone or in person remain. Here’s what you can expect from the new app: Activities & Programs Find programs for all ages! Browse programs for youth, adults and seniors, including sports, camps, swim lessons, fitness classes and more. The entire registration and payment process can be completed in the app. Court & Pavilion Rentals Want to reserve an outdoor pavilion, tennis court or pickleball court? See what’s available and make reservations directly from the app. Facility Passes & Memberships View and manage purchased pool passes and tennis center memberships in the app. Barcodes can be scanned directly from the app, allowing quick and convenient access to facilities. Mobile-Exclusive Notifications Through the new app, parks staff can send urgent notifications about program updates, including weather notices, registration deadlines and other announcements.
