That results in the arrest of a former employee in Grimes County, where the landfill is located, and by College Station police.
Landfill spokeswoman Abigail Metsch says they discovered seven illegal charges on a company credit card. That led to the termination of 24 year old Kevin Martinez and his arrest on Grimes County charges. Metsch said Martinez was placed on five years probation and an order to pay restitution totaling $398.74.
Metsch said during their internal investigation, a customer contacted them with the suspicion that a landfill employee used a credit card that the customer kept on file at the landfill.
A College Station police arrest report says the customer, who lives in Spring, contacted CSPD saying someone used her card to make a charge for $1,241.86 to pay rent at the College Station apartment where Martinez lived.
Martinez was arrested Tuesday (February 25) on the CSPD charge of credit card abuse.
Martinez, who according to jail records lives in East Bernard, was released the next day after posting a $5,000 dollar bond.
Online Brazos County court records say Martinez is charged with violating probation after admitting to misdemeanor theft in December 2023.
Metsch says the landfill has discontinued keeping customer credit card information at the landfill. She says customers can complete account information online.
