Howell Named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

Texas A&M’s Cashius Howell was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for his strong play in the No. 16 Aggies’ 44-22 win over Utah State, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced.

Howell, a senior defensive end from Kansas City, Mo., became the first FBS player in nearly a decade to record three consecutive sacks during a single drive. Howell’s “sack trick” forced a three-and-out and produced six-, seven- and eight-yard losses to push Utah State to its 4-yard line. Howell led a Texas A&M defense that limited Utah State to a 2-for-14 performance on 3rd down conversions.

The last player to accomplish the feat was Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy, who sacked USC quarterback Cody Kessler on three straight plays in the 2015 Holiday Bowl.

The 6-2, 248-pound Howell became the first Aggie to record three sacks in a game since first-team All-American Edgerrin Cooper did it against Alabama in 2023. According to Pro Football Focus, Howell’s 87.0 pass rush grade for the season ranks No. 13 nationally among defenders with at least 35 pass rushes.

Howell is the ninth Aggie to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors.
