HOUSTON (AP) _ Some law officers in Houston have undergone special training on dealing with diplomats after a Chinese diplomat allegedly was struck in the face.
Monday’s seminar, hosted by the Center for International Studies at the University of St. Thomas, was closed to the media.
Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia says information from the session will be incorporated into academy training.
County Attorney Vince Ryan says Houston, as an “international city,” has 30 foreign consulates and more than 60 honorary consuls. Ryan says the manner in which such representatives are treated can affect international trade.
Three Houston police officers were assigned to desk duties following an April 24 incident with a Chinese diplomat that allegedly began as an attempted traffic stop.
