Houston CIty Councilman Arrested

HOUSTON (AP) _ A Houston city councilman is accused of fleeing from police officers who had flagged him down for allegedly speeding.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office says Jarvis Johnson was arrested Wednesday night and charged with evading arrest.

Johnson did not immediately return messages Thursday from The Associated Press.

A criminal complaint says a police officer tried to stop Johnson at about 10 p.m. Wednesday for speeding in an area north of downtown Houston. The complaint says Johnson “did then and there unlawfully intentionally flee.”

Johnson was released after posting $2,000 bail. Johnson was elected to city council in 2005. Earlier this year, he lost a Democratic primary bid for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.
